Plot Summary:
Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian's (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin's empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete. Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.
My Review:
So awesome, It made my nose bleed!!
That was my initial reaction to seeing this movie. You'd expect that the 6th movie of any franchise no matter the genre would be showing its age but this was a totally fresh movie. From the get go Fast 6 grabs your attention and doesn't let go to the credits roll and even then, they unleash a little, evil hook that stays in your mind and makes you want to see the next movie in the series even more (yes, there will be a Fast and Furious 7).
The story is simple, as expected for an action movie. Everyone does well in their roles, Dwayne Johnson's Hobbs is as stone faced as ever, Vin Diesel's Dom is still more action less talk, Paul Walker's Brian is still as smart-assed and inventive as ever. Even Ludacris and Tyrese do well in their supporting roles. It seems like years of working together as a team has solidified their rapport with each other and the banter flows effortlessly. The jokes are humorous and the emotions are easy to pick up.
The action of course is on point and by that I mean over the top. Fast Cars, epic jumps, beefy brawling, hot chicks, everything available in boatloads. Never a dull moment in this movie. Even the scene from the movie trailers that I really wanted to see, on the runway with the Antonov 124 (translation: big frigging russian plane!!) was reasonably explained in the movie (if you have an open mind).
The movie isn't without its flaws though. The major one for me was that same runway scene which has a bit of a problem (you'll have to watch it to understand) and also, some unnecessary losses but they don't really affect the movie too much.
It was definitely a great action movie and if I wasn't so broke, I would have gone right back in to see it.
My Rating: 8/10
