The One: HTC Unveils Their New Flagship Smartphone

The internet was already flooded with leaked photos of the phone and its specs but yesterday at a launch event that took place in two cities (London and New York) at the same time, HTC confirmed its latest flagship device, The HTC One. If you ask me I'd say that holding 2 events on different continents just to launch one device doesn't make much sense, but what do I know about product launches.

With its 4.7" 1080p Super LCD3 screen, 1.7Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor  and 2 GB RAM, the HTC One is more than ready to claim the title of Superphone champion for 2013 but its still to early in the year to tell. One look at the phone and you immediately see its resemblance to recently released Blackberry Z10. Coincidence or Part of the plan?

One of the major peculiarities of the phone however is its 4 megapixel rear camera. Laughably small megapixel count in this day and age for a high end smartphone right? HTC wants to prove that more megapixels doesn't necessarily mean better quality images and the HTC One seems to support this theory. From all indications its 4 megapixel camera takes pictures that are on par, if not better that cameras with higher megapixel counts. It also offers Optical Image Stability (OIS) that prevents blurring ing pictures and videos, a hallmark feature of Nokia's Lumia 920.

Another major change is the new Sense 5 which looks nothing like the previous iterations of HTC's Sense UI. Gone is the iconic clock widget that has defined HTC smartphones for close to five years. Front and center in Sense 5 is the HTC Blinkfeed, a news aggregator that pulls content from its partners websites and arranges them in an easily readable tiled view that reminds one of the Windows Phone interface.

With stereo speakers up front (BoomSound), Beats Audio and an IR blaster for remote control functionality, its clear that HTC put a lot of focus beefing up the media chops of this phone. Estimated arrival time is middle of march and HTC says it will be launching in more than 80 regions. As a HTC fanboy, I can't wait to get my hands on this One.
