Right on schedule, Microsoft announced the updated versions of its two tablets, the Surface Pro 2 and the Surface 2 which replaces the Surface RT. they both come with the usual improvements, better battery life, stronger processors, higher res- screens, improved cameras and all that jazz. Even the Touch and Type Covers received improvements with slimmer, back-lit designs and a new battery cover that adds a couple of hours battery life to the tablets. You can read more about them on the Surface website.

All of this was no more than was expected from Microsoft but my main interest was in the Surface Pro 2 and its graphical capabilities.
The first Surface Pro, with its Core i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphic 4000 integrated chip was surprisingly capable for a tablet, playing Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 with very little lag (and a copious amount of editing in the video config of course). Microsoft is claiming that the Surface Pro 2 has 50% improvement in graphical performance over the original Pro and if this turns out to be true when it launches then I just might be interested in getting one. For $899 and above it's a bit pricey for a tablet but then it is a full fledged PC in disguise and Microsoft claims its more powerful that 95% of the laptops out there (believable considering most of the laptops out there are mid-range devices). I can definitely see myself carrying this around  for some casual gaming on the go and getting home to plug it into a dock for some more serious gaming or home theater magic.

Whatever the case, when the reviews start pouring in, we'll know more of just how much this baby is capable of.
